Project Woods and Stars

Situated at Moorgate in Rotherham, this beautiful Victorian property was set to be transformed with wallpaper and paint. The Hall, Stairs and Landing was in need of a little TLC.

Stage 1 - The Preparation

The walls were to be stripped back to its original plaster and all debris to be taken away.

You can see how to strip wallpaper at our how to strip wallpaper blog post.

All walls and wood work were sanded, filled and re sanded. We used the Mirka Deros Dustless Sander to do most of the sanding to keep the dust down to a minimum. You can learn more about our dustless sander at our dustless sanding blog. The finer things like spindles and door frames were hand sanded. Once the wallpaper stripping and sanding was finished, we applied PVA to the walls to seal the super absorbent old plaster.

Stage 2 - The Cross Lining

At this stage with the preparation out of the way we then began to cross line the walls. All the walls were to be crossed lined to leave a smooth surface to paint onto. The main stair wall was to be papered in a Cole & Son Woods and Stars wallpaper.

Stage 3 - The Painting

With the walls crossed lined it was time to pick up the brushes and get on with the painting. Ceilings and coving were painted in Johnstone's Covaplus. Two solid coats did the trick with its perfect covering power. The team applied two coats to the walls with Farrow & Balls Tallow. All wood work was meticulously prepared and painted with an Undercoat and two coats of eggshell. Once again we went with the Johnstone's Trade Undercoat and Eggshell for its coverability and durability. The stairs hand rail was freshened up, with two coats of teak stain and the exterior door was painted to perfection in a high gloss black finish, 10 Downing street style. In fact at one point I'm sure I saw Theresa May walk past us?

Stage 4 - The Final Stage - Wallpaper

The customer wanted to have a wallpaper that was striking on entry to the property. Well they achieved the wow factor with their choice. The Cole & Son Woods and Stars sits perfectly with the wall colour, white ceilings and wood work. A beautiful finish to the decorating project.

What the customer said...

"We hired Drew Decor to redecorate our hallway and landing, having come to the conclusion that it was much too big a job for us to tackle ourselves. Right from the very first meeting, Richard and his team were outstanding - always punctual, polite and professional. They arrived early every morning and worked tirelessly all day. Their attention to detail was fantastic, and we really felt that they were determined to make sure the finish was as good as it could possibly be. We’re very pleased with the end results and would be happy to recommend Drew Decor to anyone else needing a quality decorating service." Andy Knowles.
