So, what is caulk? Caulk is a flexible filler that professional painters and decorators use to fill internal corners on wood and plaster.
For example
Cracks on internal corners of walls
Cracks on internal corners of door frames
Cracks on internal corners between ceilings and walls.
Caulk does have its limitations. It cant be rubbed down so filling holes on wood or plaster is a big no no.
How to set up the caulk gun
First we need to set up the caulk gun with the caulk tube.
Cut off the end of the tube with a sharp knife, preferably a Stanley knife. Ensure you cut this on an old piece of wood, or somewhere where you won’t damage the surface.
Screw on the nozzle and cut the end of the nozzle by a few millimetres at a 45° angle.
Open the caulk gun and slide in the tube.
Squeeze the trigger until it hits the base and continue to squeeze until the caulk reaches the tip of the nozzle.
Its all about the angle
Hold the caulk gun at a 45° angle towards the internal edge you want to fill, with the tip of the nozzle facing the surface. Firmly squeeze the trigger and move the caulk gun across the surface.
Once the caulk has been applied, smooth over with your finger and wipe off any excess onto an old rag. Leave the caulk to dry for an hour or two to set before painting over.
